White Water Rafting France 2012

The Isère river
This River has a world famous reputation for top level Kayakists. The brand new slalom course at Bourg- st – Maurice hosted the world canoe-kayak championships in 2004 and the 2012 ICF Wild Water Canoeing World Championships the week we were there! The river’s source is at the Iseran mountain pass and it is fed into by the snow melt of the glaciers of the Vanoise National Park which turn it into a surging torrent. The river is controlled by the hydro-electric dam at Tignes which regulates the water releases between the beginning of may until the end of september. The section between Bourg Saint Maurice and Centron offers a amazing variety of whitewater with the notorious Aime rapids in the middle of the trip followed by the stunning Pucelle Gorge and finishing with the Centron rapids. The run between Bourg St Maurice and Centron contains rapids from class II to IV (European scale) and runs through the spectacular Virgin’s Gorge.

We had a fantastic time!!
