Early morning spin…Belper to Chatsworth

After picking up Heather’s new bike last Saturday we decided to take it on its maiden voyage. The weather was scorching hot so we decided to set off at 7.15am. This was a mistake because we arrived at Chatsworth before 9am and the farmshop/restaurant was closed. We spent a few minutes looking at the 3 giant crocheted lions by artist Shauna Richardson.
The lions are displayed in a 16 metre long illuminated glass case in front of the Bastion wall in the park, the Lionheart project is one of 12 Arts Council ‘England’s Artists Taking the Lead’ commissions, and will form part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympic Programme. After its 6 week display in the Chatsworth park, the Lion heart project will tour the East Midlands before arriving at the Natural History Museum in London in time for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We did enjoy a fantastic cheese and ham omlette (we should have had one between two really) at the Pancake Caffe, Matlock Bath. We managed to get a table outside which was a great people watching spot.  We didn’t try the pancakes but they are all traditionally cooked in the Breton way on a cast iron griddle with fresh home made batter.
